Lake Chapala, nestled in a mountain valley just 50 minutes south of Guadalajara and 25 minutes from the international airport, is the largest inland body of water in Mexico.
It is 50 miles (75 kilometers) long and 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) wide and is situated on the border between the states of Jalisco and Michoacan and approximately a 3 1⁄2 hour drive from the Pacific Ocean.
Chapala, the largest of the six Lakeside communities was founded in 1538 and has been called home by such notables as President President of the republic of Mexico first from 1877-80 and second 1884-1911 Porfirio Diaz and D.H. Lawrence (who wrote “The Plumed Serpent”)
Hacienda el Manglar is a great property which has a main house, next to the pool, with lakeside view, a guest house located in the back and an appartment. The property is just in front of the lake and in the past it was a weekend home for Porfirio Diaz, former Mexican president. Wealthy, famous and rich people from Guadalajara and Mexico City visit Chapala, all having private residences. It has a garden where you could get lost, a botanical garden, sculpture garden, art studio and a semi-Olympic pool. The house has a unique architecture, where the past meets the present to create the perfect atmosphere.
